After graduating from Fine Arts (engraving) in Montpellier in the eighties, I never stopped exploring the different possibilities of creative techniques for engraving with a preference for intaglio and drypoint and linocuts.
My inspiration comes mainly from the plant and mineral world: weeds, bare trees, decrepit walls, horizon lines ... Fleeting impressions that after a slow maturation and research in the workshop may lead to a mark on rag paper or a print.
The result is essentially abstract, expressing the desire to go straight to the essence of the form, to its line of force.

My work aims to translate aesthetically an emotion and a tension, born out of what connects me to both sides of our world, the light and the dark. Hence the use of charcoal, woodcut and ink. What the three have in common is that each of them accentuates the oppositions between light and dark.
Lacarrière, whom I allow myself to quote for the resonance of his remarks: "From gravity to grace, in other words from darkness to light, there is the whole history and adventure of our world. " This relation between dark and light interests me particularly at this moment.
On the other hand, I like to slide without opposing them from the figurative to the abstract, modes of representation linked to the concomitant work of the eye and the imagination.
Joëlle has been practicing photography since 1986. In 2002 she created the association ART ET NATURE in Navacelles (Cirque de Navacelles) where she comes from. Since 2008, she has chosen to focus on collective exhibitions, participating in projects initiated by other artists, or sharing the creative process with a group within the framework of the activities of ART AND NATURE.
There are the photos that I "pick" during my wanderings in nature, or when walking on familiar paths; these photos anchor me in a place, a season, echoes of the mineral substance of the place, or of its vegetal exuberance but always expressions of wonder at what is there, in its simplicity, its nakedness, its power.
And there are images born from an interior movement, an encounter between two worlds, nature and the dreamlike power of the elements.
My photos are raw material for the creative process.
